Earlier this year, 28 IP employees from facilities across the state, Memphis and DC participated in the fourth biennial California Capitol Day. The two-day event incorporated a pre-briefing, appreciation dinner attended by Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon and Senate Pro Tem Toni Atkins, an IP-PAC lunch, and over 40 meetings with state legislators. The team discussed priority issues like the unintended consequences of paid sick leave, the plastic bag ban, fees on paper and recycling mandates.
Additionally, during the California Capitol Day IP hosted a breakfast at the Capitol to educate legislators and their staff about our businesses and the products we make in California. Aimee Gregg, VP ＆ GM Recycling ＆ Recovered Fiber, highlighted our recycling business in California with an emphasis on our commitment to sustainability while speaking at the breakfast. In addition, the event showcased International Paper’s commitment to the communities where we live and work by presenting the American Red Cross with a $180,000 donation to support fire relief efforts in California. “Every two years, IP employees are welcomed warmly at the State Capitol. For new legislators it’s an opportunity to learn first hand about our company and meet with constituents” says Cynthia Leon, Regional Government Relations Manager, who organizes the event. “It’s also a great way to grow International Paper’s profile in California.”
